Fear is one of the greatest tools that the enemy tries to use in order to cease our devotion to God and to our purpose. Fear has the ability to make us hinder forward movement, make us look back into our past and turn us back to places and people that God delivered us from. How do we obtain fear? We obtain fear when we begin to think thoughts that are really lies. Satan uses his demons here on earth to attack our minds in such a way that stunts our growth in Christ. The end result is often spiritual or physical death. Moreover, it is important for you and I to become knowledgeable of his schemes and war tactics. We are constantly being defeated in our walk with God because we are not diligently studying how to defeat our enemy.

Doesn’t it boggle your mind how the world knows how to successfully study its opponents? The greatest basketball and football teams that have ever existed have dedicated themselves to studying their opponents. Some of the greatest battles to ever go down in the history of war were won by decisive and strategic planning against the enemy’s strengths and weaknesses.

Yet, we in the body of Christ, are lazy and are being defeated everyday by our opponent because we are simply not ready for battle. We don’t study our Bibles, we aren’t fasting and we definitely aren’t praying because we often place the things of this world as our priority over God. How can we expect to win a battle that we are not prepared for? You and I will get taken out every time!

What is quite amusing is that the enemy studies you whether you study him or not. The enemy knows where you came from. The enemy knows your background. The enemy knows what trips you up, discourages you and makes you feel hopeless. The enemy knows how to place “false” thoughts in your head that “appear” real. Our opponent knows how to gain foothold in our minds to make us do the very thing that we never intended to do. Fight back!

The only way to defeat these mental attacks is to guard our hearts and our minds. For example, if there are certain songs that provoke you to sin or make you relive a hurt or wrong that was done to you, turn it off!! If there are movies that entice you to sin or cause you to remain sleepless at night, turn it off! My brothers and sisters, we are at war. We are in a spiritual battle and you cannot be caught mentally unstable without the whole armor of God.

Why are we allowing the devil to gain foothold in our minds and hearts? The Bible specifically tells us in Ephesians 4:27, “do not give the devil a foothold.” The Good News Translation says it better by saying, “Don’t give the devil a chance.” This means that we should not give the enemy any ground to stand on. Just as it is done in war, we should set up a fence and perimeter around that which the Lord has given to us and around everything that belongs to us. We should become so territorial over our bodies so much that we refuse to let the enemy tamper with our mind, heart and soul. The Bible tells us in Proverbs 4:23, “Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.”

Romans 7:18 says, “For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out.” Saints of God, there is nothing good that dwells within us so this makes believers a constant target for Satan. This proves that we are weak and in desperate need of a Savior. We cannot expect to win our spiritual battle by using our carnal minds as weapons for equipment. 2 Corinthians 10:4 says, “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds.”

This battle is bigger than you! Armor up! Don’t get caught without your gear. If you don’t know what your gear consists of, I’ve provided you a hint in the scripture passage below. And remember, F.E.A.R. is only, “False Evidence Appearing Real” so get your game face on, get out on the battlefield and fight! The victory is yours!

Ephesians 6:10-18
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
